In La Liga, Real Madrid suffered a 2–1 defeat away to CA Osasuna on Saturday night. It marked Real Madrid’s first loss to Osasuna in 15 years, with the last defeat coming back in 2011.

Although Madrid dominated possession, they lacked sharpness in attack. In the 38th minute, a mistake by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois led to a penalty for Osasuna, which was converted by Ante Budimir. Vinícius Júnior equalized in the 73rd minute, but Madrid could not hold on. In the 90th minute, Raúl García scored the winner to secure a dramatic victory for Osasuna.

As a result of this defeat, Real Madrid’s position at the top of the table is now under threat. They remain first with 60 points from 25 matches, but FC Barcelona, currently on 58 points, will move to the top with a one-point lead if they defeat Levante UD tonight.

After this league setback, Madrid must now shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League, where they will face SL Benfica in the playoff second leg on Wednesday.

Speaking after the match, Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa did not hide his disappointment:

“We didn’t play well. At times we had control of the match, but there was no tempo in our game. We have to play much better.”
